Life is busy and if you aren’t on to it, the important items in your life can be pushed to the side for those daily distractions that constantly pop up that seem urgent at that time and suddenly a week has just gone and you are wondering what on earth did you achieve.
Getting organised and managing your time will help simplify your life allowing you to take control of it again allowing you to enjoy a purposeful life.
First things first, Organizing doesn’t just happen, you choose how you spend your time – you can be intentional with the way you spend your time or be hijacked by the constant distractions around you or even live your life according to others priorities rather than your own.
Take control and start living your life by your true values by creating a weekly plan and getting organised. The main idea here is to have a rough plan on how you want your week to run.
What are your priorities? To live a more balanced life you should set aside time for all areas of your life in your week. For example you might have categories like, note these are only a few:
Personal – habits that focuses on you – workouts, hobbies things that make you healthy and happy so that you can function at your best
People – make sure you are allocating time with your loved ones that makes you feel good
Commitments – weekly commitments that are set in stone for example work, childrens drop off and pick up from school, after school commitments etc.
Household duties – anything to do with home and generally living ie grocery shopping, meal prepping etc
Decide what your priority items are and list them.
Time to build a schedule
Now you need to schedule times throughout your week to accomplish these priorities. Begin with the weekly commitments that you can’t change or that impact other people such as work. Here you can also work out ways to save/manage your time for example if you know you are going into town for a certain priority ie school drop off why not include other activities that also need to be done in town such as the weekly grocery shop? Be smart!
Of course life doesn’t always go to plan and sometimes you just have to go with it. But setting your intentions on how you want your day, week to run, will give you more direction allowing you to achieve a more purposeful life. I have below designed a basic week plan but if you have your own planner use it, use what will work for you. If you do use the one below print it out and start scheduling.
All this planning is going to be a waste of time if you don’t follow through. Create a habit of checking your plan at the start of the day, throughout the day and just before bed to stay on track. You can set alarms on your phone to remind you of important appointments and tasks that needs to be accomplished or even alarms letting you know that it’s time to work on another priority.
